Abstract

This article explores the literary representation of culture and ideologies in British- Pakistani English fiction writer Qaisra Shahraz’s novel titled Typhoon (2003). It explores the innovative use of linguistic features which are relevant to Pakistani English. The study incorporates Muthiah’s conceptual frameworks proposed in 2009 to evaluate linguistic specifications of South Asian English. Kailvahni Muthiah has described 36 linguistic features in his study that are found in indigenized Pakistani English. This study also finds some other features like morphological innovations and endearments which are present in the selected text. Among all these features, total sixteen linguistic features are directly related to Pakistani English, so the study attempts to find these. This research is qualitative in nature. This analysis shows that localized English represents ideologies as well as cultural norms specific to context in Pakistan.
